A New Technology for Scalable Bottom-Up Assembly of Nanoparticles

Nanoparticle formulation is both science and art. A tremendous amount of time and effort is expended on reconciling problems with user variability, reproducibility, and scale-up. Born from a collaboration of two professors from the University of British Columbia, Precision Nanosystems aims to make formulation more scientific using an efficient bottom-up approach to nanoparticle assembly. The new process, being adopted at a rapid pace worldwide, is tunable, reproducible across multiple users, and scalable from the bench to clinical production. This talk describes the nuts and bolts of our technology and how our partners in industry and academia are using it to change the face of medicine.

Biography:

Ilya Captain received his PhD in organic chemistry from UCLA under the guidance of Dr. Tim Deming in 2014. After a postdoc at Berkeley National Laboratory and a short stint at University of Freiburg in Germany, Ilya left the bench. After six months of working on data-driven consulting projects, he accepted a sales-oriented role as a field applications scientist. He now helps to grow Precision Nanosystems’ business in the US West coast and Asia-Pacific regions. In his free time, Ilya enjoys playing music, exploring the outdoors, and utilizing his lab skills in the kitchen.
