Success in career development: professorial to entrepreneurial activities

Choosing the right career paths could be one (or a few) of the most difficult decisions you make in your life. In this seminar, Dr. Kollbe Ahn will share his decision-making experience as a student, professor, and CEO, and share the moments he had to turn down some offers that are hard to refuse. Further, he will present his inventions that helped him to start up a company and that made him quit his professor position for “bigger fish to fry”.

Biography:

Dr. Kollbe Ahn co-founded ACatechol in 2016 when he was a faculty at UC Santa Barbara, has left his tenure-track professor position in 2020 to lead ACatechol’s COVID-19 research projects funded by NSF and NIH to help to address the pandemic and to focus on his business plan toward IPO. He has managed multimillion-dollar government and industrial research grants as a PI, and has authored numerous high-profile publications on the topics of surface science and biomaterials. He maintains academic activities at UCLA and UCSB.
