The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Professor Jun Chen and Scott Gibson (Director, Global Operations Leadership at Amgen) to its prestigious College of Fellows, Class of 2026. Election to AIMBE represents one of the highest professional distinctions in the field, recognizing the top 2% of medical and biological engineers for their outstanding contributions to research, industry, and innovation.
Professor Jun Chen, an associate professor in the Department of Bioengineering, brings interdisciplinary expertise spanning materials science, applied physics, and bioelectronics. He was elected “for pioneering the discovery of giant magnetoelasticity in soft material systems and advancing its application in novel magnetoelastic bioelectronics.” He is currently ranked the top researcher globally in the “Bioelectronics” category on Google Scholar.
Scott Gibson is the Global Operations Lead at Amgen, with nearly three decades of experience in device and combination product development, including the invention of novel technologies and the successful launch of commercial products. He joined the UCLA Bioengineering Industrial Advisory Board in 2019 and served as Co-Chair from 2023 to 2025. His election recognizes both his leadership and impact in the biotechnology industry and his contributions to bioengineering education.
