Bioengineering Professor Zhen Gu has won the “2019 Small Young Innovator Award. The awards were presented in the “Small Science Symposium” held by Wiley in Beijing, August 18th, 2019. The Small Young Innovator Award recognizes outstanding, interdisciplinary scientific work in the development and fundamental understanding of nanoscience and nanotechnology by a young scientist or engineer. The award recipient must also show exceptional promise as a developing leader in the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Together with Professor Liangbing Hu at the University of Maryland, Professor Gu won this award for his “outstanding contributions to developing innovative drug delivery systems, especially for treating cancer and diabetes”. Highlights of his pioneering work include “smart insulin patch” and engineering platelets for cancer immunotherapy.
