The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) highlighted the history of Dr. Eric Pei-Yu Chiou’s work in developing photothermal nanoblade technology to insert large cargo into  cells. Dr. Chiou and his colleague, Dr. Michael Teitell, developed a laser-powered nanoblade that makes small slits on the surface of cells, which DNA, proteins and larger material can enter. The goal is to use this technology to deliver antibodies, proteins or even life-saving drugs into cells.
