The UCLA student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society was awarded the Commendable Achievement Award by the Student Affairs Subcommittee of BMES for the 2018-2019 school year. The award recognizes the UCLA student chapter of BMES as the second most outstanding and successful chapter in the nation. In particular, UCLA BMES was recognized for the programs developed during the school year (including the first ever Biotechnology Career Fair hosted at UCLA) as well as the strides taken by the chapter to better the community through volunteerism in the name of STEM and to better student members through personal mentorship and chapter growth. As award winners, two members (Mandy Hung, President ’18-’19, and Izabella Samuel, President ’19-’20) presented at the BMES Annual Meeting on October 18th. This presentation featured UCLA BMES’s best practices relating to industry/professional development, community outreach, and mentorship, as well as the broad range of technical projects offerings available to give club members hands-on experience in bioengineering techniques.
